Seeking God in NUMBERS

“Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.” NUMBERS 12:3

T

he man who said to God I am not good enough was the man of whom God said I speak to him mouth to mouth, not through visions and dreams. Often we think of ourselves less than God does. And this is a good thing, compared to being plagued with a spirit of arrogance. Humility is a byproduct of wisdom. We are not, after all, the brightest star in the firmament; rather, we are closer to being a grain of sand in the seashore of eternity.

Swollen concepts of self-importance create delusional mindsets, and poorly disguise feelings of worthlessness. We are God’s masterpiece, no doubt about it. Yet we are not to be envious of others, or murmur against their gifts, if we hope to attain virtue at all.

Miriam allowed jealousy to corrode her spirit. And the leprosy that she received as a result serves as an example that we must check ourselves constantly. Check the condition of our heart before we open our mouth to judge our brother. Pray in the Holy Spirit that the love of Christ abides in us at all times. Seek the Lord’s presence so that in Him we might learn what is acceptable in His sight, versus the corruption of the flesh. Help us, dear Father, to become meek and kind, and to cleanse our spirit from the leprosy of envy. Amen.
