Seeking God in ROMANS

“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.” ROMANS 13:8

T

he greatest commandment is the hardest commandment as long as we strive to fulfill it on our own. Imagine the freedom of owing nothing to others, except love. Imagine waking up every day undisturbed by worldly affairs such as debt and bills; living –instead of fretting- filled with the Holy Ghost, irresistibly drawn by devotion into giving your all to God and your neighbor. A primal struggle with self-acceptance hinders many from enjoying harmonious relationships with others. Those who are strangers even to an honest conversation with self, let alone with God, interpret Jesus’ invitation to love as wishful thinking, to say the least. Surely our Lord knows that we cannot give what we lack. How to conceive love in the barren heart? Our personal relationship with God holds the key to such miracle. By loving Him first, all good spiritual gifts inevitably sprout in the human heart.

Child of God, who have you left stranded? From whom did you withdraw your love? His light compels you to become love in action. The rich blessings God has deposited within you must flow from out of you as rivers of living waters. We who are called by His name follow love’s higher standard. Paul says against love there is no law. Are your enemies in your prayers? Is the love of God growing in you every day? From that one relationship, everything else flow. Cultivate that first love and there will be an abundance of mercy, and charity. The circumcision of the flesh is the birth of the spirit. If your flesh delights in hatred, overcome it with devotion to Jesus. Let his Spirit transform you from the inside out. When you admit that you are too weak to reach the highest love standard, then He is able to perform a miraculous work inside you.
