“Your glorying us not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?” 1 CORINTHIANS 5:6
| C |
ompromise a little today and tomorrow you will have a second chance to slip again. Tiny installments of less than ideal actions, or omissions, always lead to undesirable results. If you care to examine the reason behind every single area of chaos in your life, you will find a little leaven. Compromise -at its worst- can lead a man to a state of existential freeze where he does not even take the necessary corrective actions to improve his lot because he feels utterly unworthy of being blessed. We must actively look for and purge areas of compromise in our lives, instances when we fail to uphold God’s standards for living. As a chosen people, our struggle is not to act the part, but to be it. Living inspired by the Holy Spirit, a great inner battle ensues when our flesh pulls away back to its old ways, as if influenced by a wicked inertia.
As a boat changes directions by a subtle turning of the wheel, reverse the effects of a little leaven by letting Jesus place His hand in the helm of your life. Before a tiny compromise delivers you back into the hands of darkness, follow the light of His humble spirit. Recognize your inability to keep yourselves unblemished from the world unless you deposit your complete trust in the Lord to sustain you. Remember, I cannot be a saint unless Jesus makes me one. Keeping ourselves pure, loving our enemies, and rejecting all covetousness –to name a few- are impossible guidelines to the flesh. The ability to live a holy life springs only from Him, and in Him we find the wisdom to know where we have compromised.
