Seeking God in ACTS

“But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, ad sought to bring them out to the people.” ACTS 17:5

P

eople waste years trying to understand why there is so much suffering in this world. Then they arrive at some misguided explanation, and endeavor to attack the manifestation of evil, rather than its source. They address hunger with a plate of food, instead of investing in permanent resources that would eradicate the problem altogether. Christians, on the other hand, have a divine appointment to create change by our sheer presence, especially by prayers and intersection. The Holy Spirit empowers us to engage our spiritual tools, and tear down works of wickedness. Our actions generate an equivalent re-action from the enemies of God. As we read in Acts, the enemies of our faith were irritated by the mere witnessing and gathering of the brethren.

Our duty is to remain centered in God, and never allow ourselves to be moved, or fret, over the reactions of evil spirits inciting men to oppose us. The Bible says that wicked men assaulted the house of Jason; yet, ultimately, the purposes of God prevailed. Always remember that we are on the winning team. By virtue of Christ’s sacrifice, we possess the courage and endurance of men like Jason as we contribute to the fulfillment of God’s plan. His will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Let our roots be strong in faith, doing every day as the Holy Spirit instructs us. With the Word as our foundation, and Jesus our High Priest, we can move mountains and turn this corrupt world upside down. Therefore count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations, James reminds us. This is how, as Christians, we reach our spiritual maturity to be used by God for His holy intentions.
