Seeking God in SONG OF SOLOMON

“Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.” SONG OF SOLOMON 1:6

any of our insecurities in love arise from the burdens we carried early on in life. Sometimes we struggle in our relationship with the Lord because His love is unlike anything we have experienced before. Someone who grew up under the load of abuse or rejection might live trying to earn God’s love. If we are not used to a tender touch, and all we know are slaps and punches, this is what we unnaturally expect- even from Him. How do we learn to give and receive love after those who were supposed to love us, hurt us? Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you, God says to the soul of the abandoned; yet the abandoned has to believe, remember, and renew his mind according to scripture. Love in action means that we run to God no matter what.

The skin of the beloved, burnt as a result of her family’s anger, did not stop her from recognizing the true spring of love. Never let your scars determine your future. Talk to Him about them, rest in His bosom and let the pain go. God does not judge you by the state of your own vineyard. He knows the story behind every flaw you present to Him. Love receives you with open arms, a sincere heart, and an everlasting covenant. Hide not from the embrace of the One who has your hairs numbered. Your parched skin is an invitation to His healing waters. He sees you not as the world does, but through the eyes of love. To God you are, and will always be His beloved. When you hear His hand on the doorknob of your heart, rush to the door, and welcome Him.
