“Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the Lord had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.” JUDGES 6:27

re you afraid to do God’s will? Go forth anyway. Has God called you to tear down strongholds in your family, at work, or in your community? Why delay the purposes of God on account of the frailties in your human heart? Gideon sought help from his men, and sought a way to overcome his fears by acting during the night. There is always help at your disposal, if you look around. There is always a way to get beyond uncertainty. Once you overcome the “can’t do” attitude, there is nothing stopping you. Every obstacle is an opportunity to witness the miracle-working power of God.
Gideon was not a perfect man. He did not have to. God looks at the heart of His servant. When the relationship of love and adoration between man and God is restored, the divine wisdom guides man’s actions to the fulfillment of the higher purpose. Even while surrounded by Israelites who did evil in the sight of the Lord, Gideon honored God. When the demonic culture despises you, rejoice. The light on Christ is shining through you, witnessing to those who are far away from the Lord, reminding them of His name.
Gideon underestimated himself. Notice that the Angel of the Lord called him a mighty man of valor, yet there was no external evidence of such courage. God does not look at your circumstances, or considers your self-image, before He calls your name. David prayed: create in me a pure heart, oh Lord. This is what we need in His presence. Titles, riches, and earthly possessions of all kinds do not impress our Maker. What is a sacrifice without obedience?
