Seeking God in COLOSSIANS

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” COLOSSIANS 3:2

M

ay the Lord grant us the Spirit of wisdom, who is able to elucidate every subject, as we seek to know Him, and ourselves.

Fix, Lord, in our understanding, the notion of being firmly established in you, for this is the first condition of learning: “Set your affection…” You remind us in Isaiah 66 that their own delusions will haunt those that do not listen to you. So we incline our spiritual ears, dear God, to hear from you only. And through obedience and love, we desire above all else to live under the shadow of your wings.

Transform those affections in us that still cling to the things that are on the earth. Expose them to us clearly, that we may do our part and remove them from ourselves. You know our private struggles better than anyone. And we thank you because you do not use them to judge us; rather, with your eyes of mercy you look upon us as a doctor to his patient, and instruct us in the way to health. How else if not by grace can we walk in kindness, meekness, and longsuffering? The higher things are unattainable to us, base creatures who aspire to dwell with the Most High, unless you -our Father- anoint us with the oil of true holiness. Forgive our trespasses, Lord, and hold us today in the palm of your hand. This we ask in the name of your precious Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
