Seeking God in HAGGAI

“Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.”

HAGGAI 1:7

L

ove compels us to engage in a variety of enterprises. We cannot rest while our affairs are in chaos. From relationships to finances, we must deal with our reality until we are certain that we are giving our all to improve our lives. Idleness is not an option. But what happens after much toiling without rewards, after years pass by without reaping the precious fruits we have worked for? Two roads diverge before us. One, we give up and "adapt" to the less-than-ideal situation. Two, we consider our ways. Millions succumb to a state of permanent frustration, struggling with the memory of broken dreams tattooed in their spirit. Lacking wisdom to understand the will of the Lord, they remain blinded to the root cause of their failures. The destiny of God’s children, however, is not to waste their lives running on any sort of existential treadmill. Doing everything is never a solution, but doing the one thing.

We ask Him: why, Lord, are our wages put into a bag with holes? And the Word is His response. We have lifted our interests above His. We seek to fill the belly of our personal ambitions rather than His glory. Our priorities are in disarray. Yet we are a chosen people. Chosen means being set apart for a purpose. How can we insist in living for the world when we have been made to serve God? Our heart aches because we have withheld the love that belongs to Him. Our mouth is silenced because we are too occupied with the things of this world, too busy to worship Him. The doors remain shut because the prayers that would open them remain unspoken. What power can a Christian possess without following Jesus's footsteps? Our Savior prayed, sought God earnestly. We have lived long enough in the shadows of a counterfeit Christianity. This is the hour to consider our ways. Realize our identity. Execute our responsibility.
