“They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one of his hands wrought in the work and with the other hand held the weapon.” NEHEMIAH 4:17

ngagement in the work of the Lord requires not only our unshakable commitment. Our talents are not sufficient. The circumstances in which we find ourselves while carrying out His will awake the attention of enemies all around us. Ordinary people hate those who heed to the Word of God, rise up and build. Among other things, our actions remind our enemies of their own inadequacies. They too might have been called; yet contrary to us, they chose to pursue the ways of dark selfishness. Let us be mindful that evil in this world was born out of a man who failed to obey the direction of our God. Walk with Him all the days of your life and you will discover something no man can ever take away from you: His precious presence. This is why David hiding in caves still sang, O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Our Lord calls us to rebuild the wall destroyed by our enemies. He is the resurrection and the life; knows how to use even our despair for His good purpose. Nehemiah felt utterly miserable seeing the affliction of the Jews, and the destruction of Jerusalem. And God turned his sadness into a building power that led His people on a mission to restore. Holding a sword in one hand…never forget yours, and building with the other one. Be not in ignorance concerning your creative efforts must be joined with a weapon to defend them. Each one of us is a builder, and a warrior. The Lord gives us the power to accomplish. Use the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
