“For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the lord our God for ever and ever.”
MICAH 4:3

eople have all sorts of gods...jobs, family, possessions, titles. And when life hits them with a test, they rush to the real God for a solution. Unconsciously or not, their concept of divinity is a supernatural servant who sits bored in heaven, waiting for men to give him something to do. Often we hear about someone who becomes an addict or attempts suicide because one of his idols is gone. How easy it is to warp blessings into addictions when our heart turns away from the Lord. The mind constructs empires of twisted logic only to justify its delusions. If a job is my god then everything I am, everything I do, and desire, is subject to it. If a house on the hills, or my accomplishments printed on the town’s newspapers are my god, then an earthquake and a scandal are enough to bring me down. What does it really mean that the Lord is my God?
I have a test upon me, heavy on my shoulders. Around me everyone has an opinion. Some of my companions depart. Confusion overwhelms me; there is no solution in sight. Today I follow what someone said; tomorrow what someone else said. Like a sailboat in a storm, no direction, no anchor, no guiding light. Will I continue substituting one idol for another? Or will I recognize the hand of God trying to show me a spark of divine wisdom? Is it time to let go of those stubborn idols we have dragged around hidden in the deep caves of our spirit? Is it time to pay attention to the voice of the Holy Ghost, whispering words of guidance all along? All we must do is incline our spiritual ears, and listen. Without much effort, His word adjusts our direction. There is no need to engage in frantic activity to manifest the will of God in our lives. Only a heart that is willing, open, and ready.
