Seeking God in 2 KINGS

“And the sons of the prophets that were at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold you your peace.” 2 KINGS 2:3

lisha rested in his peace because of spiritual maturity. This present world is filled with skeptics who jump at any chance to question our faith. It was no surprise to the prophet that his master would soon depart, yet he did not let his mind be troubled. Perhaps excited about the opportunity to continue the work of the Lord, Elisha focused on being next to Elijah up until the end. On the verge of our breakthrough people pop out of nowhere just to plant seeds of anxiety and disbelief in our mind. Such influence can be very distracting, yet we must learn to hold on to our God-given purpose nonetheless.

Some people eagerly remind us that our blessings –or the physical manifestation thereof- will not last forever. Empowering relationships, plans, or even a special characteristic that distinguishes us from others can become instruments for those around us to shake our spiritual certainty. Interestingly, Elisha stood firm in his conviction and addressed the negative comment by tackling the real problem. He flew by an opportunity to get stuck in self-pity. Hold you your peace, he said, being himself at peace with Elijah’s departure.

When we live in surrender to the will of God, we feel incredible peace… supernatural, incomprehensible to the flesh. There is no word a human being can say to us with enough power to shake this foundation. Elisha knew that even when the Lord took Elijah from him, all would be well. God’s good and perfect plan may not make sense to the worldly mind, but it shields you against the anxious minds around you, especially during the times when you are walking on water –trusting Him- rather than logic.
